Boykin Spaniel

South Carolina's state dog, the Boykin Spaniel was developed in the early 1900s as a compact, versatile hunting dog small enough to ride in a boat for turkey and waterfowl hunting in the Wateree River swamp. They are enthusiastic, friendly, and highly trainable, with a rich brown coat and a cheerful, willing temperament that makes them equally adept as sporting dogs and family companions.
