The Brussels Griffon originated in Belgium in the 19th century, bred from street dogs and refined with crosses to the Affenpinscher, Pug, and English Toy Spaniel to create a charming companion for coachmen. Known for their almost human-like facial expressions, they are affectionate and intensely loyal to their owners, though they can be sensitive and somewhat willful. They come in two coat varieties—rough and smooth—and are distinguished by their large, dark eyes and flat, pushed-in face.
