The Finnish Spitz is the national dog of Finland, a breed developed over thousands of years by the Finno-Ugrian peoples of the region to hunt a variety of game, from small rodents to large elk, using its distinctive 'bark-pointing' technique to indicate quarry to hunters. The breed is immediately recognizable by its brilliant red-gold coat, fox-like face with dark almond-shaped eyes, and tightly curled tail carried over the back. Lively and friendly, Finnish Spitz dogs are known for their remarkable vocal ability and independent thinking, requiring patient, consistent training to bring out their considerable talents.
