The Glen of Imaal Terrier originated in the remote Glen of Imaal in County Wicklow, Ireland, where it was bred to hunt fox and badger and to work a turnpit wheel in farmhouse kitchens. Despite its small stature, this breed possesses a rugged, muscular build and a bold, tenacious spirit characteristic of working terriers. Unlike many terriers, the Glen tends to be quieter and less excitable, though it retains a strong prey drive and an independent streak that requires patient, consistent training.
