A tiny spitz breed descended from much larger Arctic sled dogs, the Pomeranian was miniaturized in the Pomerania region of present-day Germany and Poland and later popularized by Queen Victoria. They are bold, vivacious, and remarkably confident for their diminutive size, carrying themselves with an almost cocky self-assurance and a luxuriant double coat that forms a distinctive ruff around the chest. Their alert, fox-like expression and spirited personality make them excellent watchdogs and lively companions who pack enormous character into a very small package.
