The Portuguese Podengo Pequeno is the smallest of the three size varieties of the ancient Portuguese Podengo, a primitive hound breed with roots tracing back to Phoenician traders who brought sighthounds to the Iberian Peninsula over 2,000 years ago. Bred to hunt rabbits in Portugal's rocky terrain, this agile and spirited small dog possesses keen senses, lightning quickness, and a lively, affectionate personality that makes it an endearing companion. It comes in both smooth and wire coat varieties, and its hardy constitution and independent nature reflect centuries of working in demanding conditions.
