The Russian Toy is a diminutive breed developed in Russia from English Toy Terriers, refined over centuries as a companion dog among Russian aristocracy and later revived after near-extinction in the Soviet era. It is a lively, devoted, and spirited dog that forms exceptionally close bonds with its family, displaying an almost cat-like agility and alertness. The breed comes in two coat varieties—smooth and long-coated—with the long-coated variety distinguished by its elegant feathering on the ears and limbs.
