The Sealyham Terrier was developed in mid-19th century Wales by Captain John Edwardes on his Sealyham estate, selectively bred to hunt badger, otter, and fox in the rugged Welsh terrain. It is a sturdy, low-set terrier with a characteristically outgoing and friendly personality, somewhat calmer and less high-strung than many other terrier breeds, though it retains the determined and spirited nature typical of the group. The breed is distinguished by its all-white or mostly white wiry double coat, prominent oval head with a long foreface, and abundant facial furnishings.
