One of the oldest of the Scottish terriers, the Skye Terrier originated on the Isle of Skye in the Scottish Hebrides, where it was bred for centuries to hunt fox, badger, and otter in the rocky terrain. The breed is instantly recognizable by its long, low body, profuse flowing coat that falls over its eyes, and large, feathered ears that may be either prick or drop. Devoted and courageous, the Skye Terrier is famously loyal to its family but characteristically reserved with strangers, a trait immortalized by the legendary Greyfriars Bobby of Edinburgh.
