The Toy Fox Terrier was developed in the United States during the early 20th century by selectively breeding small Smooth Fox Terriers, with additional crosses to toy breeds such as the Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher to reduce size. Despite its diminutive stature, this breed retains the bold, spirited character of its terrier ancestors and excels at hunting small vermin, agility, and performing tricks. Alert and intensely loyal, the Toy Fox Terrier is both a determined little athlete and an affectionate companion equally suited to apartment living or active outdoor pursuits.
